Example: cheapest existing tool beats custom build

Restaurant name withheld pending owner approval.

The ask

A Southern California sports bar wanted guests to scan a QR code at the table, view the menu, order, pay themselves, and have tickets print in the kitchen or bar.

What we found

The restaurant already runs Toast POS. Toast sells this as an add-on: Toast Mobile Order & Pay, purchased through the Toast Shop and enabled in Toast Web. A custom app would require Toast API write access through a Toast rep or the integration partner program, with no published timeline.

Recommendation

Use the existing add-on. Pricing is not public; it comes from the Toast rep. No savings figure is claimed here.
